The Wittockiana offers you an insight into the world of books and bookbinding within the confines of an architectural landmark.

The fruit of the bibliophilic passion of Michel Wittock, whose name it bears, the institution presents precious works from the Renaissance to the present day, as well as temporary exhibitions devoted in a broader sense to the ancient and contemporary arts of the book. The museum also holds various remarkable collections such as the cabinet of the poet Valère-Gille, founder of the periodical La Jeune Belgique”, the Lucien Bonaparte collection, which contains the entire first edition of the Encyclopédie by Diderot and d’Alembert, a collection of Flemish spiritual books from the 16th and 17th centuries, and numerous books by modern and contemporary artists, object-books and sculptures. In addition to its collection of unique and precious books, the Wittockiana houses a documentation library and organizes daily bookbinding courses as well as numerous events, such as conferences, study days and creative workshops for children and adults.
