For the Austrian cellist Valerie Fritz, sound quality is the cornerstone of an accurate interpretation. She explores her instrument with an open mind and thorough precision to serve the piece she is working with as faithfully as possible. Under the title The Space in Between, Valerie Fritz and accordeonist Goran Stevanovich perform works that occupy both earthly and otherworldly realms, bridging their distance through music. The project features traditional pieces by Schumann and Stevanovich, a space journey to Mars composed by Jennifer Walshe, and the spiritual tension between the material and the spiritual in Gubaidulina and Pärt.
Valerie Fritz has been named ‘Rising Star’ for the ’25-’26 season by Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Bozar, la Casa da Música Porto, the Kölner Philharmonie, the Konzerthaus Dortmund and the Musikverein Wien as part of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) network. During her European tour, the artist has been invited to perform at Bozar and to give a private concert for the residents of Petit-Château (refugee arrival centre), in collaboration with the Fedasil and Orfeo associations.
