Self-determination on film showcases works that examine the struggles of Palestinian, Kurdish and other peoples, revealing how colonial histories, borders and political alliances persistently influence the circumstances in which self-determination is pursued today.
From documentary images carrying traces of resistance across borders and generations to speculative experiments that visualise liberated futures, film has long been central to struggles for self-determination. Amid censorship and the absence of trustworthy media, moving images become acts of resistance: counter-archives, testimony and tools shaped by the communities they portray.
This screening programme is organised in conjunction with Banu Cennetoğlu’s exhibition right? as part of the Millenium Film Festival.
