The first season of Film as told by concludes with a special screening of Cousins’ Storm in My Heart (2018), a rarely seen feature-length experimental film that intertwines the lives of two Hollywood stars, Susan Hayward and Lena Horne. Both Hayward and Horne – who was also a celebrated singer – were born on 30 June 1917 in Brooklyn. Their parallel lives reveal coincidental similarities, but Cousins’s film also highlights profound differences that raise questions about feminism, racism and the politics of Hollywood. The screening will be followed by an intervention by Cousins and an invited guest.
