Feel like weaving along?

  • Courses and workshops
Feel like weaving along? Join in and discover how threads become stories. Every day, you can work alongside others on a large textile piece. Once you’ve got the hang of the technique, weaving is an enjoyable, calming activity that offers a temporary escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is also the perfect opportunity to chat and meet new people while creating something beautiful!

For the opening of Kanal, Otobong Nkanga transforms one of the large open spaces into an intimate venue for meeting and co-creation. At its centre are wooden looms, where a weaving community made up of local groups will work every day. Participants include members of Ftouma Laayoune’s Sew For Life, a programme for the economic empowerment and integration of female asylum seekers in Brussels, as well as undergraduate students from the professional weaving course at the Haute École Francisco Ferrer. They are supported by weaving experts Georges Ahokpe and Estelle Chatelin of Ahokpe + Chatelin. Based in Belgium and Benin, this textile studio explores traditional weaving practices. The weavers will gradually transform their surroundings into a communal space where visitors can work on the looms, adding their own colours and patterns to the evolving textile work.
