Victor Julien-Laferrière, winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition for cello in 2017, makes his debut in our renovated Hall M with a solo concert paying tribute to Pablo Casals. It is thanks to this legendary Catalan cellist that J.S. Bach’s Cello Suites have earned a place in our collective memory. As a young teenager at the end of the 19th century, he blew the dust off these impressive works. At the same time, Casals modernised cello technique in the 20th century, which benefited a certain Zoltán Kodály. In the challenging score of his Sonata No. 8, Kodály explores the possibilities of the cello. The use of scordatura, an unusual tuning method that creates unique timbres, is striking.
With your ticket for Victor Julien-Laferrière, you also have free access to Bozar all over the P(a)lace.
