Schumann, Brahms & Mendelssohn

Our portrait cellist Sol Gabetta and the pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout can’t seem to get enough of each other. Professionally speaking, that is. In this recital, they dive into Romantic repertoire, with Schumann, Mendelssohn and Brahms. Although Schumann originally wrote his moving Fantasiestücke for the violin and piano, they are also perfect for the cello. In three miniatures, he reveals his most poetic side: lyrical phrases that alternate with lavishly extrovert passages. Gabetta and Bezuidenhout also treat two keystones of cello-piano repertoire as a lingua franca: the Second Cello Sonatas of both Mendelssohn and Brahms.
