Release | Subtle indie pop and introspective songwriting from Brussels to Brooklyn

I Should Be Softer’ was recorded and produced by Katie Von Schleicher (Frankie Cosmos, Cassandra Jenkins, Lady Lamb, Sam Evian…) at Figure 8 Recording in Brooklyn in September 2024. Three months earlier, Lucie Rezsöhazy had emailed him her demos in a burst of confidence (or naivety, depending), and Von Schleicher immediately responded with enthusiasm: Those chords!’

So Rezsöhazy flew to New York and found himself performing the songs live with Wayne Whittaker on bass (Pigeon Club, Amy Aileen Wood, Tyler Ballgame…) and Zoë Brecher on drums (Jay Som, Palehound, Bruce Springsteen, Julian Baker…). The first week is devoted to rehearsals and studio time. The second week, Von Schleicher and Rezsöhazy finished production at home, before the latter returned to Brussels. They completed 13 tracks, supervised by Ursula, Von Schleicher’s budgie, whose vocals appear on all her records. The mixing was done by Nate Mendelsohn, so feedback and decisions were made remotely. The album was then mastered in Brussels by Remy Lebbos of Raresound Studio.

I Should Be Softer’ will be released on 5 September on Cleo Records. It will be the artist’s second opus, following The Absence Of Misery’ released in 2023.

For the live show, Rezsöhazy will be joined by a host of seasoned musicians: Aurélie Muller (Blondy Brownie, River Into Lake…) on bass, Clément Marion (Ada Oda, David Numwami, Paradoxant…) on guitar and Carla Biber (Margaux Vranken, Satchel Hart…) on drums.
