Spontaneous Art Museum

Nestled opposite the Halles de Schaerbeek, this small, atypical museum is full of unexpected works. Through solo exhibitions, group shows, retrospectives, and publications, it presents various forms of expression by self-taught artists from the movements of naïve art and art brut.

The permanent collection, both cosmopolitan and distinctive, brings together a wide range of works — paintings, sculptures, drawings, and photographs. It stands out for its marginal character, outside traditional artistic norms. It reflects the unique perspectives of men and women on the world around them. The creations are often spontaneous, sometimes produced without prior artistic training or any explicit intention of creating a work of art. The artists come from very diverse social and professional backgrounds: workers, librarians, archivists, care assistants, lawyers, etc.

The reserves house more than 1,700 works created by around 300 artists outside the academic circuit.

The museum aims to be a social and digital laboratory, where innovative immersive tools (video, podcasts, video games, etc.) make art accessible to all and where every visitor takes an active part into the creative process.
