This evening Payal Kapadia will join us for a deep dive into her filmmaking practice and her carte blanche choices that have influenced and shaped her own work. The conversation will be moderated by Tamara Tatishvili, the current Head of the Hubert Bals Fund.
The conversation will be followed by a screening of All We Imagine as Light, her fiction feature debut from 2024 that won her the Grand Prix in Cannes.
Prabha and Anu are two nurses who lead modest lives in Mumbai. Prabha has long been separated from her husband, who left to work abroad, and has resigned herself to a quiet life, while the younger Anu has bold dreams, especially about the Muslim boy she secretly loves. When fellow nurse Parvaty is evicted from her home, the women travel to her coastal village, where the distance from the noise of the city provides space for reflection and longing. With lyrical images by cinematographer Ranabir Das, the film reveals a tender, gradually deepening sisterhood.
