Over the course of the workshop, these individual stories take on a textile form: the texts are printed onto fabric, then brought together to create a collective flag, conceived as a living, sensory archive. Participants are invited to reflect on the links between personal and collective history, on the archives they produce daily and on the importance of their own narrative, as well as on the commemorative, political and community significance of textiles. Léa Brami is an artist, writer and architect based in Brussels. Influenced by folk art, punk aesthetics and DIY culture, they draw on existing archives to create memorial and fictional spaces and objects of political resistance. This workshop forms part of the joint programme with Midis Poésie, which has been bringing poetry and literature in all its forms to Brussels for 78 years. Together with a group of regular artists, Midis Poésie organises a varied programme of workshops, performances and readings, tying in with the various themes of the exhibition A truly immense journey.
