Maria Arnal is one of the most innovative voices in contemporary Spanish music. Based in Barcelona, she blends electronics, avant-pop and traditional polyphonic music with projects at the intersection of sound, technology and art. Her work has received widespread acclaim and numerous awards, including the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona (2017), RTVE’s Ojo Crítico (2018), Premio Ruido (2022), Premi Continuarà (2024), an Honorary Mention at Ars Electronica’s S+T+Arts Prize (2024) and a Gaudí Award (2025).
She has performed at major festivals like Sónar and on international stages including TED Talks in Vancouver. In 2025, she presents new music at Sónar and appears at leading venues such as the CERN Art and Science Summit, the Venice Dance Biennale, Romaeuropa and Iceland Airwaves.
As a composer, she develops innovative works such as Flors de veu (2025), a mixed-reality installation using AI, alongside AIR (Venice Architecture Biennale 2021) and SIRENA (2022), a generative choral piece interacting with Barcelona’s data. She also co-directs Cada capa de l’Atmosfera (CCCB), a sonic essay on climate awareness nominated for two Ondas Awards.
In parallel, she collaborates closely with choreographer Marcos Morau, composing for pieces like Afanador, Sonoma and La mort i la primavera (2025), where she also performs. In 2024, she presented Maria CHOIR, and composed the award-winning soundtrack for Polvo Serán, as well as music for La Virgen Roja.
Her research into AI-generated voice feeds into AMA, her first solo album and international tour, released in February 2026 with Atlantic Records.
