Reflecting this remarkable career, this special edition of Film as told by invites friends and collaborators to explore different facets of de Kuyper’s practice. Inspired by his years presenting the groundbreaking television programme De Andere Film [The Other Film], each guest offers a personal perspective through film excerpts, readings, anecdotes or reflections, echoing de Kuyper’s role and legacy as a host, mediator and advocate for others’ work. Weaving the various contributions together will be a screening of de Kuyper’s Echte Clichés (‘Real Cliches’, 1991), a rarely seen series of vignettes centred on one of the filmmaker’s recurring interests, his passion for dance.
