Compassion: Matthäus-Passion Revisited

According to Ivan Fischer, compassion is key to the story of the Passion: by witnessing Christ’s suffering, as a listener you experience a sense of compassion. Therefore, Fischer pairs music from endangered peoples and minorities with Bach’s St Matthew Passion. Classical Western music flows into music from other traditions and continents. Fischer’s aim is to afford universal meaning to suffering, because unfortunately, many people still face injustice. The artists will be selected a few months before the performance, and will be decided as a result of the political context at the time. Prepare for a unique vision of the St Matthew Passion that will not leave you unmoved.
