Bill Cunningham New York - Richard Press

  • Events

In the second half of the twentieth century, at least three extensive, unofficial imagistic histories of New York City were produced: Jonas Mekas’s 16-mm diaries, Warhol’s multimedia oeuvre, and Cunningham’s photography. The parallels between Bill and Andy are so striking they hardly need to be spelled out.’ – Amy Taubin

Through interviews, street photography and archival material, Bill Cunningham New York traces his vast body of work and offers a delicate, humorous and often moving portrait of
the New York Times photographer who spent decades chronicling fashion as a reflection of everyday life. Riding his bicycle through Manhattan, Cunningham documented uptown charity galas, downtown eccentrics and chance encounters alike in his celebrated columns On the Street and Evening Hours.

Richard Press is an American filmmaker. He directed Bill Cunningham New York (2010), his first feature length documentary and has since directed Farnsworth House (2021) and episodes of the documentary series Abstract: The Art of Design (2017).
