The Japanese Tower and Chinese Pavilion were until recently part of the Royal Museums of Art and History, Federal Scientific Institutions, as Museums of the Far East. The buildings are managed by the Régie des Bâtiments.

The buildings of the Museums of the Far East date from the beginning of the 20th century and have undergone several restorations during the previous century. Nevertheless, infrastructure problems that put the safety of visitors and staff at risk were identified in October 2013.

The Régie des Bâtiments, in consultation with the Museums, ordered the closure of the Chinese Pavilion, the Japanese Tower and the Japanese Art Museum. A renovation and restoration project is underway. The works of art have been transported to the Art & History Museum’s reserves and a small selection of Chinese export porcelain is currently presented in the China rooms of the Art & History Museum.

If you have any questions about the collections, please contact the curator Nathalie Vandeperre.

If you have any questions about the buildings, please contact Mr Johan Vanderborght of the Régie des Bâtiments.
