Fauré: Requiem - Le Concert Spirituel & Hervé Niquet

  • Others

Hervé Niquet breathes baroque and the French romantic repertoire. In this concert, he presents Fauré’s Requiem, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the composer’s death. Gabriel Fauré, like Brahms, wanted to take a slightly different approach with his Requiem. Fauré viewed death as something peaceful, as a good prospect of happiness in the afterlife, and leaves no room for rage or the fear of death. It concludes with the hopeful prayer In paradisum, whereby the deceased is escorted by angels to the kingdom of heaven. Le Concert Spirituel is likely to surprise you with its unexpected colour variations in choir and orchestra, as is the sublime soprano solo in the Pie Jesu.
