Imagine Brussels in the Renaissance. The city was protected by a rampart... Or rather, two. The first dates from the beginning of the 13th century, the second from the 14th century. Brussels went from a 4km rampart studded with seven doors to an 8km rampart! These coexisted up until the Renaissance. This walking tour will revisit the transition from feudal ramparts to bourgeois ones. What were the customs of the city's inhabitants at the time? What impact did this have on the different directions of the two walls and how they each expanded? You won’t look at these ruins the same way again!
