Assistant chorus master (M/F)

Description of function

To assist the in-house chorus master, Martino Faggiani, on a musical and organisational level during rehearsals and performances on allocated productions, and deputise in his absence.

Description of tasks

  • Assist the chorus master at musical and organisational levels
  • Prepare and study the vocal parts – for individuals and full chorus
  • During pre-production, conduct allocated chorus rehearsals – individual, group or full chorus
  • During rehearsals, to act as chorus repetiteur
  • Conduct the offstage chorus during performances as required
  • Support the chorus musically, as well as maintaining discipline and morale throughout the rehearsal process and performances
  • Mediate, as necessary, between the chorus master and the chorus
  • Attend and participate at chorus auditions

Profile

  • Experience of conducting and managing a professional (opera) chorus
  • Excellent general knowledge of music and of the operatic repertoire
  • Excellent score reading ability, with a high level of music theory and vocal parts knowledge
  • Good working knowledge of chorus conducting techniques
  • High level of piano musicianship, piano accompaniment, and playing by ear
  • A good musical ear
  • Ability to conduct, and play accompaniment for, a broad range of lyric repertoire
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Languages: knowledge of Dutch or French, English, knowledge of Italian an asset
